The Four Days Marches Nijmegen

This is where crowd communication was invented

The Nijmegen Four Days Marches (Vierdaagsefeesten) are the largest free festival in the Netherlands — and the birthplace of crowd communication. Every year, more than 2.1 million visitors come to the city. Guiding that many people safely and smoothly through the city centre calls for clear, real-time communication. That is why the organisation brought in crowd communication from CrowdCows.

We installed our HIKER screens at strategic points across Nijmegen, driven from the regional monitoring room at the police station. On police instruction, our operator informed visitors about walking routes, busy areas and public-transport updates. In an emergency, the standard messaging switches straight to safety announcements.

Thanks in part to good crowd communication, more than 96% of visitors feel safe during the Four Days Marches festival.
